Town discription
The city of Limassol (Lemesos) is located in a scenic locality on the shores of the Bay of Akrotiri in the narrow coastal plain, between the two ancient city kingdoms of Kourion to the west and Amathus to the east. It is within one hour's drive from the capital city of Nicosia (Lefkosia) to the north, the port cities of Pafos (Paphos) to the west and Larnaka to the east and the main mountain resort of the Troodos range. Limassol is the island's second largest city, the most important tourist and commercial centre and the principal port. The city offers a grand number of luxury hotels, most of which are on the shore along a 15km coastline, some even with their own marinas. Restaurants and taverns are also plentiful, serving the whole range of local, regional and international dishes. It is renowned for the variety of its night entertainment, taverns with Greek bouzouki, modern discos and steamy nightclubs. One can take a tour around one of the many wine factories and if you come in September you can take part in the wine festival.
